Fond du Lac - Oshkosh

Day One

9 – 10:30 am Villa Loretto Tours – Pet a llama or see the fainting sheep at this unusual ranch run by nuns! Don’t leave without stopping at the “Nun Better Bakery” for a fresh cookie.

11 – 11:30 am Little Farmer Orchard - Apples, cider, muffins and pies – all of best of the season’s plus much more.

12 noon – 1 pm Lunch at Schreiner’s Restaurant in Fond du Lac, famous for those wonderful “sticky” buns.

1:15– 1:45 pm Hounsell’s Greenhouse - Bird food and feeders, green plants and hanging baskets, make this one of the most complete garden centers in the area. Add to that one of the largest selections of farm toy collectibles in the state.

2:30 – 3:30 pm Knigge Robotic Farm – One of the few farms in the nation that is totally automated. Enjoy a tour of this free stall dairy barn where the cows milk themselves!

4 – 9 pm Overnight in Oshkosh, Wisconsin with dinner and entertainment.

Day Two

9 – 10 pm Oshkosh Public Museum – Explore the history of Winnebago County when you visit the former home of one of Oshkosh’s Lumber Barons. Be sure you are there on the hour to witness the Apostle’s Clock as it performs for you.

10:30 – 12:30 pm Glen Valley Farm – Take a hayride tour, learn about the bedding and training business, watch a horse show performed especially for you and enjoy an old fashion cook-out all down on the farm.

1 – 2 pm Heavy Critters Light Critters – Specializing in unique ornamental concrete, granite and resin garden statuary.

2:30 – 3:30 pm Originals Mall of Antiques – With over 100 dealers, Originals is quickly gaining the reputation as being the best Antique Mall north of Chicago. Whether you are shopping for antiques or just taking a stroll down memory lane, you’ll enjoy visit.

Day One

9:00 – 10:30 Siberian Outpost – Visit with the dogs while you learn about sledding and the history of an antique sled.

10:30 – 11:00 Relax and observe the scenery on your way to Plymouth.

11:00 – 12:30 Country Crafts Barn, Plymouth – Three levels filled with handcrafted gifts and country furnishings for yourself or friends. Enjoy a delicious lunch and dessert.

1:00– 2:00 Walderhaus – This “house in the woods” reflects the spirit and architecture of the Bregenzerwald region of Austria. This building features intricate carvings, woodcuts, reliefs and iron and pewter work.

2:30 – 3:30 The Wreck of the Lottie Cooper, Sheboygan – Feast your eyes on a three- mast schooner that capsized and sank in gale force winds in 1894 just off the Sheboygan Harbor.

5:00 – 9:00 Overnight in Sheboygan, Wisconsin with dinner and entertainment.

Day Two

9:00 – 10:00 Shops at Woodlake, Sheboygan - Browse the unique and interesting shops and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

10:00 – 11:00 Travel north to Manitowoc

11:00 – 12:00 West of the Lake Gardens, Manitowoc - This 6-acre estate features a rose garden, Japanese gardens and also sunken and formal gardens.

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch in Manitowoc.

1:15 – 2:15 Pinecrest Village – This village includes 25 historic buildings and special exhibits that interpret farm and village life in Manitowoc County during the 19th and early 20th century.

12:30 – 1:30 pm – Arrive in Horicon lunch, choices available.
1:45 pm – Arrive at Blue Heron Landing. Watch video entitled “Marsh Community” Browse through our one-of-a-kind gift area.
2:15 pm – Leave on our 2 hr. narrated Birding Tour. Return at 4:15 pm.
4:30 pm – Depart for Fond du Lac, check-in at motel.

Retreat to Manitowoc

9 am - Begin your tour of Manitowoc with a stop at Pine River Dairy. Over 250 varieties of cheese available in their retail store. Enjoy a 25 cent hand dipped ice cream cone while browsing through many gifts and souvenirs. View the butter manufacturing process through the observation window.
10 am - TR Truck & Auto –Take a walk through Wisconsin’s largest classic car showroom at TR Truck & Auto. A great selection of American muscle cars; over 125 classics to view or buy.
11 am - Capitol Civic Centre – Take a tour of this vintage 1921 restored vaudeville house which features professional touring artists, Broadway shows, music, theatre and dance. Advanced reservations required. Group rates available on most performances.
Noon - Hungry? Stop at the Wallstreat Grill for a light lunch;then head over to Beerntsen’s Candies for an ice cream sundae in an old fashioned ice cream parlor.
1:30 pm - Spend the afternoon at Woodland Dunes – A 1,200 acre wildlife sanctuary, home of hundreds of species of plants and animals. Woodland Dunes offers more than 6 miles of nature trails, an interpretive center, butterfly garden, naturalist led programs, folk music concerts, and a gift shop.

Oshkosh – On the Water

  • .Menominee Park, Oshkosh's largest park stretches 109-acres along the shore of Lake Winnebago.  One of the features of the Park is Little Oshkosh, one of the largest and most unique community-built playgrounds in the nation. With over 40,000 square feet, there's nothing little about it. Little Oshkosh features a "human" head, lighthouse, castle, airplane, swings and tunnels, all made out of the wood that made Oshkosh famous.  The Menominee Park Zoo is home to many of the animals of the area.  The Park is also the site of the first catholic mass to be performed in this part of the world.

Sheboygan – A Community for All Seasons

  • Cedar Springs Trout Farm – Fine trout fishing is assured in the spring-fed ponds of this Kettle Moraine wilderness hideaway. Equipment provided or bring your own. Easily accessible to elderly and handicapped. No license required, no bag limit. Cost, based on the weight of live catch, includes cleaning.
  • Lakefront Promenade – Stretching from the boat launch area to the breakwater, the Lakefront Promenade allows walkers to admire the array of sailboats and powerboats docked at Harbor Centre Marina.   The majestic Lake Michigan vista can continue to be enjoyed by continuing the walk along the Lakefront Trail, which follows the lake all the way around North Point.
  • Riverfront Boardwalk Fishing Shanty Village – From the 8th Street Bridge all the way to Rotary Riverview Park, the Riverfront Boardwalk takes walkers past a row of weathered shanties originally built for use by commercial fishermen. While come maintain that purpose, others have been transformed into restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and shops.
  • Schwarz Fish Market – Fresh, smoked and frozen fish fill the cases at this nostalgic fish market on the Riverfront.  Call in ahead for carry out of fish and seafood dinners.
  • The Wreck of the Lottie Cooper – Built in 1876, the Lottie Cooper is a 3-masted schooner that capsized and sank in gale force winds in 1894 just off the Sheboygan Harbor. Her remains were discovered during surveying work for the Harbor Centre Marina, re-assembled, and are not on display at Deland Park to the delight of Maritime enthusiasts.

    This tavern, in 1902, was the site of one of Carrie Nation’s infamous hatchet attacks, part of her attempt to outlaw liquor.

    Try a selection from the exotic drink menu while relaxing in an early 20th century atmosphere.  If you’re lucky Wally the friendly resident ghost might join you for a drink.

  • Niles Church at Pinecrest: Add that this is a German church and during Germanfest each July they present a church service in German. People can also get married at the Niles Church. If the group wanted to "go to church" at the Niles Church it can be arranged.

Oshkosh has been home to many breweries in the past including Chief Oshkosh beer, named for the same Menominee Chief as the city.

Oshkosh “Tabernacles”

Menominee Park, on the shore of Lake Winnebago is the site of the first Catholic Mass to be performed in this part of the new world in 1670.

  • Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church
    The lower level of this church, built in 1892, houses one of the largest Nativity collections around with over 900 pieces.
  • St Andrew’s Lutheran Church
    When the congregation of St Andrew's Lutheran Church wanted new stained glass windows for their church, they did something about it.  A group was formed and learned the art.  During your tour, you will hear of this lesson in "Jesus helps those that help themselves" and see the beautiful end result.

    St Mary's church has been a striking part of the Oshkosh skyline since 1856.  From the German Gothic Architecture to the original Barton Organ, you'll find a treasure trove of art within the walls of St Mary's Parish.

    The beautiful wood throughout this William Waters designed building of 1911, shows evidence of the "lumber barons" that peopled the pews a hundred years ago.  You also won't want to miss the Tiffany stained-glass windows, the 1911 Casavant Organ or the 1906 Steinway concert Grand Piano.
  • Riverside Cemetery - Oshkosh Public Museum, Ginny Gross, 920-424-4731
    Riverside Cemetery, on the National Register of Historic Places, is an exceptional example of a 19th century burial ground and a 20th century urban cemetery.  During these one-hour walking tours you will learn stories of "The Silent City."  The five different sections that make up the cemetery cover over 19 acres and contain nearly 35,000 graves.

2 pm - Washington House & Berner’s Ice Cream Parlor – Warm 1850 hotel, historic saloon (nonalcoholic) and museum. Friendly costumed volunteers available for guided tour, old time piano music and group singing. Berner’s old time ice cream parlor and soda fountain serves up delicious treats while commemorating the invention of the ice cream sundae right here in Two Rivers.

Small Town USA Tour - Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Rosie the Riveter will take you on a Sentimental Journey on your tour of
Manitowoc. View one of the launching sights along the Manitowoc River, used by the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co. to launch submarines during WWII. Rosie will tell you about the submariner she met, married and sent off to defend our country.

Explore the 6.1 million dollar newly expanded Wisconsin Maritime Museum. With their new addition, the maritime museum is the largest in the Midwest. Step aboard the USS Cobia submarine at rest in the Manitowoc River. It was built for battle during WWII, and demonstrated its fighting ability; sinking 13 enemy vessels in the Pacific. The submarine has actual recorded battle sounds.

You’re in for a pleasant surprise at the Rahr-West Art Museum and Victorian Mansion. Built in 1891, this 13-bedroom home features porcelain sculptures, portraits, ivory carvings, antiques and Native American relics.

A horse-drawn wagon awaits you at the Pinecrest Historical Village. Costumed docents recount the history of the 19th century farm and village. Visit the local bank, milliner, log cabins and saloon. A threshers dinner is followed by our very own kitchen band, tap your feet to the music of stomp-fiddles, scrub boards and pots and pans.

Built in 1850, the Washington House was once a local hotel and is now preserved as a museum. Step into the ice cream parlor and enjoy a Two Rivers WI creation, the ice cream sundae, while enjoying a piano performance.

This is a great one-day or overnight tour, a wonderful starting point for Door County.
